The Media Podcast secures Crowd Funding

The cancelled Guardian podcast MediaTalk will continue for another year thanks to a KickStarter campaign to raise £9k to keep it going independently.

The project attracted 244 backers who took the total to £9,093 over the weekend meaning producer Matt Hill and his team can continue to make the audio. “We’ve been working hard to find a sponsor to push us over the edge, and this morning it happened. So, from next week, we’re on for a year,” tweeted @themediapodcast.

Podcast regular Miranda Sawyer tweeted: “Well, I’m v happy that The Media Podcast has been officially Kickstarted!! Well done all, cheers cheers.”

A message on the site of the Podcast, which has been running for six editions since being axed by the Guardian, says: “Thank you to everybody who contributed to the success of our Kickstarter campaign. It means we’ll be broadcasting for the next year. Thank you.”

Before starting the KickStarter crowdfunding project, Matt said: “If we reach (the target), the programme continues for six months. If we miss it, everyone’s money is returned, the podcast closes and no-one speaks of this experiment ever again.”
