Premier to extend news team and output
A larger news team and extra on-air and online coverage is planned for Premier Christian Radio this autumn.
The station has also promoted radio journalist Marcus Jones to the new role of Group Head of News with effect from September 1st. He will be responsible for the radio station’s news output, its website news coverage and news input into Premier Christianity magazine.
“At a time when other radio stations are cutting back on their news services, Premier is expanding,” Premier’s Director of Content, Charmaine Noble-McLean said today. “And we’ll be boosting our web news services too.”
From September, Premier will carry news bulletins of Christian news and news from a Christian perspective at weekends as well as weekdays. The news pages of Premier’s website have been re-vamped to accommodate more up-to-the-minute news.
“Christian issues are rarely out of the mainstream media these days, with recent Christian stories dominating the headlines,” says Ms Noble McLean. “Controversy over women bishops, assisted dying and the on-going persecution of Christians around the world, have been of great interest to our audience, alongside other key issues such as the impact Pope Francis is having on the Catholic Church worldwide.”
Marcus Jones was born in Wales and has a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Nottingham Trent University. He has worked for Premier Christian Radio for six years.
Premier is planning to recruit two new full-time radio and multi-media journalists in the autumn to supplement its existing team of three.
