FUBAR's Jon Gaunt plans to sue talkSPORT

Presenter Jon Gaunt has said he will take talkSPORT to court after his upcoming case at the European Supreme Court.

Jon is heading to Europe after losing his high court freedom of expression challenge against Ofcom. The regulator ruled that an interview, in which Jon called a councillor a “Nazi” and “ignorant pig” breached its broadcasting code.

talkSPORT sacked Jon after the incident in 2008 but claimed the watchdog’s decision to uphold complaints against him in June 2009 was an unlawful interference with his freedom of expression.

He told RadioToday that once his wins in Europe, he’ll be suing the national UTV station. “talkSPORT sacked me because they wanted to go all football, they found it all as a convenient excuse,” Jon says.

Discussion also touched on privatizing Radio 1, saying the station should be playing the music it was set up to play instead of being a social worker – referring to youth documentaries often aired. On Radio 2, Jon says Chris Evans is one of just five “radio naturals” in the whole country whilst talking about radio talent.

Jon is on Fubar Radio each day which he describes as “proper radio” even though it is only available via the internet. He says the future of radio is via apps with unregulated radio.
