Key 103 wants to create a new Girl Band
All this month, Key 103 will be searching Manchester to create a Girl Band from scratch, consisting of four artists from the area.
The station says it wants to give four girls the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a pop star. There’ll be auctions followed by a public vote then the winners will perform at Key 103 Christmas Live at the Phones 4U Arena on 4 December.
Three members chosen by public vote and then the judges will chose the fourth and final member of the new Girl Band.
The finished group will have singing lessons, dance lessons, a makeover, stylist, photo shoot, media training, and record a single to be released on the charts. They’ll perform at Christmas lights switch-on events and tour Manchester before singing at the station’s annual gig.
Open auditions take place 2-4pm and 5-7pm Monday 1 September or 2-4pm and 5-7pm Tuesday 2 September at the Key103 studios, Castle St, Manchester, M15 4PR.
Ahead of the auditions Key103 breakfast presenter Mike Toolan said, “We’re really excited to be creating our own group, we’ve worked with a lot of bands at the station, but knowing the great talent in Manchester it’ll be fantastic to see our own group develop and see what impact they have on the market.”
“The city is famous for producing great music and great talent: For rock music think of bands like Oasis and The Stone Roses, The Chemical Brothers for dance and of course Take That and Simply Red for pop. There are so many, but there’s a gap, Manchester hasn’t produced a stand out girl band to make an assault on the charts, and Key103 wants to change that,” the station says.
