10,000 people attend Radio 1 Teen Awards

BBC Radio 1 has presented the Teen Awards for 2014 to Inspirational teenagers at an event in London.

Four of the year’s most outstanding youngsters were celebrated at the station event in London’s SSE Arena, Wembley. The Teen Heroes of 2014 were honoured alongside stars of music, entertainment, sport and online in a ceremony hosted by Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter Nick Grimshaw and pop star Rita Ora.

The event celebrated the achievements of the very special Teen Heroes, each chosen for their “incredible bravery and strength”. The winners of the celebrity awards were also announced which featured performances from Ariana Grande, The Vamps (featuring Shawn Mendes), Rixton, Ella Henderson and Labrinth.

Ed Sheeran, Zoella, The Vamps, Tom Daley, Lorna Fitzgerald and Sherlock all picked up awards in the celebrity categories.

The full list of winners are:

· Best British Actor- Lorna Fitzgerald (Abi Branning – EastEnders)
· Best British TV Show- Sherlock
· Best British Solo Artist- Ed Sheeran
· Best British Single – The Vamps ‘Last Night’
· Best British Sports Star- Tom Daley
· Best British Vlogger- Zoella
· Best British Group- The Vamps
· Friday Download Best British Breakthrough Award – The Vamps

The Teen Heroes were nominated by Radio 1 listeners for their outstanding achievements and selected as Teen Hero winners by a panel of judges consisting of a previous Teen Hero winner, celebrities, Radio 1 DJs, journalists and experts from youth organisations.

Nick Jonas, Maisie Williams, Jack Whitehall and Joey Essex were amongst the guests also handing out awards on the day.
