Radio 1 boss can't name One Direction hits

Radio 1 Controller Ben Cooper failed to think of a single hit by One Direction, when put on the spot live on Radio 2 at the Radio Festival.

He was appearing on Ken Bruce’s show, simulcast on Radio 2 and pop-up station Challenge Radio, from a studio outside the Lowry Theatre in Salford. He said he’d run over to the studio after coming off stage where he was welcoming delegates on the first morning.

After few questions about the festival, Ken put Ben on the spot telling him he was getting all guests to do a ‘3 in 10’ Popmaster question.

When told he was going to play, the Radio 1 Controller said: “Oh, you rotter!”

And after he couldn’t think of any UK Top 40 single by One Direction, Ben said: “My mind has melted. Do you know what, I’ve pegged it here and I’ve not got my brain in gear. Well, that’s going to be clipped off isn’t it!”

Ken Bruce told him: “Somehow I don’t think I’m going to be getting a gig on Radio 1 anytime shortly.”
