BBC Radio 1 launches video channel on iPlayer

Exclusive content and a weekly round-up will be the main attraction to BBC Radio 1’s new channel on BBC iPlayer from today.

The station will use lots of content previously uploaded to YouTube, plus a new 15 minute weekly programme called ICYMI (In Case You Missed It) hosted by Chris Stark, plus the ‘Official Chart Bite’ – featuring an update of the top 10 in Radio 1’s Official Chart.

It will also have a range of on-demand programmes including interviews, Live Lounge performances, documentaries and big visual moments from the station.

Talking about Radio 1’s section on BBC iPlayer, Ben Cooper, Controller, Radio 1 and 1Xtra says: “If you love music, if you love star studded interviews, then you will love Radio 1’s new programmes. I can’t wait for us to represent visually the energy and diversity of young people’s culture in UK society.”

Launch programmes include a three track Live Lounge performance and exclusive interview from Royal Blood, a three track Live Lounge performance from Taylor Swift – also featuring an exclusive interview, the rarely seen 2011 Live Lounge special from Adele – featuring six tracks from the archive and a collection of three programmes from Radio 1’s Teen Awards – including Dan and Phil’s round-up of the event.

The BBC Trust approved the move just last week, saying: “Younger people are a key and sometimes hard to reach audience for the BBC and other broadcasters, and we agree that this plan will help the BBC to reach them.”
