BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music’s Robert Gallacher, currently Editor, Commissioning, Scheduling & Station Sound for the two stations, has been appointed as Commissioning Editor of Pop.
He moves from his job being responsible for commissioning documentaries on Radio 2 & 6 Music, to cover duties previously carried out by Piers Bradford at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra before he took voluntary redundancy last month.
It was Helen Boaden, Director of Radio who outlined proposals for a reduction of roles across BBC Radio, which included the two commissioning roles to become one.
The changes are part of DQF and sees two hubs being created, one looking after Radio 3, 4 and 4 Extra. The other hub will look after Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, 6 Music and Asian network. The formation of these hubs will result in the merger and closure of more posts.
