New Head for BBC radio stations in the West

Stephanie Marshall is the new Head of Regional and Local Programmes for the BBC in the West, covering BBC Radio Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The former BBC Radio Bristol reporter replaces Lucio Mesquita who has been appointed the new Director of BBC Monitoring.

Steph takes charge of a region which covers four local radio stations, plus the nightly news programme Points West, Inside Out, Sunday Politics and BBC News Online websites for the area.

Bath-born Steph started her career at the Derby Evening Telegraph as a reporter before becoming a reporter and producer on BBC Radio Bristol in 1989. She moved into television, eventually becoming Editor of BBC Points West, and has most recently been working at BBC Breakfast in Salford as Assistant Editor.

David Holdsworth, Controller of BBC English Regions, says: “Steph is full of passion and ideas, and she is keen to draw on her experience to shape output and content in the West for a digital future.”

Steph says: “I grew up listening and watching Points West and Radio Bristol and I feel honoured to be Head of Regional and Local Programmes as we go into an exciting future for all media.”

Steph will start her new role in May.
