Fearne Cotton does last show on BBC Radio 1
Fearne Cotton is presenting her final show for Radio 1 after nearly 10 years with the station.
She’s been in the 10am-12.45pm slot since 2009 when she replaced Jo Whiley. Fearne had joined Radio 1 in September 2005 to co-present early breakfast with Reggie Yates. After two years the pair moved to host the chart on Sunday afternoons.
Clara Amfo takes over the Live Lounge show from Fearne starting next week.
Guests on Fearne’s last show today include Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl. She presided over her last Live Lounge session yesterday with a performance from Ben Howard.
She started the show by thanking Andy Parfitt for taking her on in 2005 and Ben (Cooper) and Rhys (Hughes) for keeping her. She also named her various show producers from over the the last decade and thanked the artists who’d been on her show since 2009.
“We’ve done lots of things,” she said. We won a Sony gold and we’ve done the live lounge and visualised it.”
“Good luck to Clara, she’s going to be in later. She’s going to absolutely smash it.”
Fearne will be at the station’s Big Weekend in Norwich this weekend as her last event with Radio 1.
She is due to have her second child with partner Jesse Wood soon, and announced earlier this year that she wouldn’t be returning to Radio 1 after the birth.
Writing on her website at the time she said: “I have had the most incredible decade broadcasting on Radio 1, meeting wonderful people, helping break artists and watching live music from the world’s best. However it is now time for a new chapter. I would like to thank Radio 1 for being such a great home and most of all to the listeners who have been on this journey with me. It’s such a kick to know you heard a band on my show first, or that the songs I’ve played have helped you through the day, so thank you. I will leave with the best memories and many great friends. Here’s to family and new adventures.”
Watch Fearne in a recent video interview with Radio 1 colleague Gemma Cairney for Cosmopolitan magazine where she talks about why she’s leaving the station:
