Five-times World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan is joining the regular line-up at Brentwood’s community radio station Phoenix FM.
Ronnie has been an occasional guest to the station over the last couple of years, and will be co-presenting the station’s Midweek Matchzone show with Phoenix FM regular Chris Hood, talking about recent sport and interviewing guests.
Ronnie said: “Sport’s what I know and what I like and hopefully we can have a bit of fun and create a good little show.”
Station chairman Paul Golder added: “There is immense interest in what Ronnie does. We have nearly 10,000 pages on our website and his recent interview became our most popular page ever in just three days. He has nearly half a million followers on social media and there’s a very high level of engagement from his fans, so we’re delighted to be the first station to give him a regular weekly platform.
“Ronnie has initially signed up for a three month stint. He will make a great addition to the team as he’s very knowledgable and passionate and these are the kind of people who make great radio. To use some inappropriate metaphors for a snooker player, we hope this signing can demonstrate that community radio can continue to punch above its weight and attract big names and great features”.
Ronnie’s co-presenter Chris Hood has been with the station for 18 months and started his radio career by producing radio shows for colourful football and music agent Eric Hall, who appeared on BBC Essex before his six-month stint with Phoenix FM. Chris has since graduated to the sport show which he presents every Saturday at 3pm.
The first show with Ronnie and Chris airs on Thursday 28th May at 6pm.
