UTV gets extra space for new DAB stations

First Radio Sales will be leaving UTV’s London HQ to make extra room for studios for four new stations.

talkSPORT is currently the only radio station broadcast from 18 Hatfields in SE1, but from next year will be joined by talkSPORT 2, talkRADIO, talkBUSINESS and Virgin Radio.

talkSPORT also operates its international football commentary service from the property, with numerous commentary booths in the basement. See our exclusive video tour of the building below.

Tenant First Radio Sales will be leaving Hatfields in June 2015 and moving into new premises.

UTV tells RadioToday it is in discussions with a range of suppliers as it prepares to fit out new studios and offices at 18 Hatfields ready for the new stations to launch in early 2016.

Commenting, UTV Media’s COO Scott Taunton said: “In 2016 UTV will be at the forefront of the biggest expansion in the UK’s national radio line-up in a generation. We want to foster a culture of creative excellence and innovation at our national radio business, and the world-class new broadcast centre we’re planning to build on London’s South Bank will be the first step to achieving that goal.”

Four new stations were proposed by UTV under a consortium of Arqiva, Bauer and UTV which won the second national DAB commercial radio multiplex earlier this year.
