BBC radio host cheats security for interview
BBC Radio Stoke presenter Max Mallen took TV chef James Martin by surprise at this year’s Nantwich Show and insisted he cooked up a meal with the contents from her kitchen cupboard.
Max walked passed security into the VIP area and laid out the contents of her shopping bag in front of him. The celebrity TV Chef called security to have the BBC presenter removed from the marquee, but Max insisted he make an effort and show off his culinary skills ‘live’ on BBC Radio Stoke.
“He was refusing interviews, so I took it upon myself to not give him any other option that to talk to me,” Max said.
“It’s all about making your interviewee at ease. I didn’t give James a choice. He asked me what he was supposed to do with that. I replied by telling him if he’s that good, try cooking something up from this.
“After the two had a chat, the TV chef handed Max a £20 note and said, “Here’s 20 quid, go get yourself a takeway.”
Max added, “When I walked through security I was a little nervous, but it made great radio and I think he showed me tremendous respect by agreeing to have a go. The takeaway was delicious!”
