BBC Asian Network supports Zee London Mela
BBC Asian Network will once again be supporting this year’s Zee London Mela, which takes place on Sunday 6 September.
The station will have its own stage at the event offering a number of UK and international music talent, hosted by Asian Network presenters including Kan D Man, DJ Limelight, and Yasser.
BBC Asian Network listeners can enjoy highlights from the London Mela on air through the week, with extensive highlights and special programming from the festival from Friday
Earlier this year, BBC Asian Network held a New Music Showcase where artists performed to intimate audiences at the Maida Vale Studios, as part of the Asian Network and BBC Introducing’s commitment to new talent. And in July, the first ever Asian Network Late Night Prom was held as part of the BBC Proms season at the Royal Albert Hall. Presenter Bobby Friction introduced singers Benny Dayal and Palak Muchhal, alongside songwriter and producer Naughty Boy with special guests Emeli Sandé, Kanika Kapoor and Arrow Benjamin, as East met West for a night of contemporary and classic Bollywood, underpinned by the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Richard Davis.
London Mela is Europe’s largest outdoor South Asian Festival with a vast programme of live entertainment and traditional Asian culture. This year’s celebration takes place on Sunday 6 September, 1-9pm, at Gunnersbury Park. As well as showcasing a variety of music and dance styles, from classical to modern, the festival includes craft markets, children’s activities and food stalls with delicacies from around the world.
