UTV radio commits to football commentaries

A number of local UTV radio stations have secured deals with their local football clubs to provide full commentary.

The new partnerships are between Signal 1 and 2 in Staffordshire and Cheshire and Stoke City FC, and Wolverhampton, Telford, Shrewsbury and Oswestry station Signal 107 and Wolverhampton Wanderers, signed ahead of the 2015/16 season.

This is in addition to existing contracts Pulse 1 and 2 in Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale broadcasting every Bradford City match, Tower FM in Bolton and Bury broadcasting live commentary on every Bolton Wanderers game, Radio Wave in Blackpool doing exclusive live match commentary of every Blackpool FC match, Peak FM in Chesterfield doing full live commentary for every Chesterfield FC match and Swansea Sound and The Wave in South Wales broadcasting all commentaries of Swansea City FC.

Rugby League fans in Wigan and St Helens can tune into UTV’s Wish FM for each Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic SuperLeague match, while Warrington Wolves fans get their fix on Wire FM across Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn.

Group Programme Director, Terry Underhill, told RadioToday: “Although we are predominantly music stations, we are committed to providing the very best in local radio and supporting the sports teams in each area is one way to confirm our relationship with our audiences. UTV’s investment in sport is well known and at a local level it is as important as ever to provide this important service.”
