DAB+ coming to London with Switchdigital

London II multiplex owner Switchdigital is looking for radio broadcasters interested in having a DAB+ service in the capital to get in touch.

Using the efficiencies of DAB+ technology, Switchdigital, with assistance from its transmission partner Arqiva and Factum Radioscape, will create London’s first permanent stereo-quality DAB+ radio channel.

The creation of this channel follows the launches of the UK’s first national DAB+ radio services, Jazz FM, Magic Chilled and Fun Kids, earlier this year. A number of small scale multiplexes are also on DAB+.

Piers Collins, Director of Switchdigital, told RadioToday: “The London II multiplex covers 5.3 million households across London and the South East, and has the largest broadcast footprint of all the London multiplexes licensed by Ofcom.  This new DAB+ slot provides a great opportunity for a fresh, distinctive radio service to reach this key market and exploit the growth of DAB+ compatible radio sets harnessed to the capacity efficiency benefits of the DAB+ standard.”

Further details of how to apply for this slot and other information on the London II multiplex are available at switchdigital.com.

The closing deadline for applications is 3pm on Friday 10th June 2016.
