Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, John Whittingdale, has endorsed UKRD’s Local Radio Day and has commended the role local radio plays in the local communities it serves.
In an interview published today, he congratulates UKRD Group on its initiative and strongly supports all those stations right across the UK which deliver local radio content to their listeners.
“I think Local Radio Day is a great idea. UKRD have a portfolio of channels in the community right across the country and the more we can do to raise awareness of local radio stations and the role that they play in supporting communities the better,” said Whittingdale.
UKRD’s Chief Executive, William Rogers, was delighted that the initiative had received the Secretary of State’s endorsement. “It’s great to have the support and encouragement of the most senior politician with responsibility for our sector and it’s clear from what he says that he not only recognises the terrific role proper local radio plays in the fabric of local community life but goes out of his way to commend that role.”
“We’ve been thrilled with the level of support we’ve received from politicians of all parties and along with John Whittingdale’s interview, we’ll be publishing them all on localradioday.co.uk as well as our own local sites.”
