This weekend, the Official Asian Download Chart on the BBC Asian Network is being relaunched.
The show will have a new name – the Official Asian Music Chart – and for the first time, to reflect the growing popularity of streaming, audio streams will be included in the chart in addition to download sales.
The new show will be unveiled this Saturday with regular presenter, Suzi Mann, who will be counting down the biggest songs from Number 40 to Number 1, as compiled by the Official Charts Company. The chart consists of download sales and streams of songs by a South Asian or British Asian artists or groups, or which are Asian in style.
Suzi Mann, who has presented the show for almost four years, says: “I am very excited and honoured to be a part of this amazing evolution of the show! This is a revolutionary moment for both the BBC Asian Network and the Asian Music industry. Streaming is an accurate reflection of how music is consumed in the current digital and on-demand era. Now, we’ll have the biggest definitive playlist and a truly level playing field. This brand new Official Asian Music Chart has its pulse firmly on the future of music.”
