The longest serving presenter at BBC Radio Merseyside, Stan Ambrose, has died at the age of 86.
Stan has been hosting the weekly Folkscene show for 49 years. The station tweeted the news yesterday, saying: “Sad news, our longest serving presenter Stan Ambrose has passed away. He fronted Folkscene for 49 yrs. Rest in peace”
They added on Facebook: “A very sad day- the legendary Liverpool folk music star Stan Ambrose has passed away. Stan hosted Folkscene on Radio Merseyside for 49 years, helped found The Bothy folk club in Southport and played his harp at venues across the North West.
He was loved and respected. RIP Stan x”
Stan was born in Essex and moved to the North West in the 1960s.
