Uckfield FM co-founder Mike Skinner awarded
Uckfield FM’s Mike Skinner has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2016 Uckfield Business Awards.
Mike was chosen to receive the award by the Executive Committee of the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce who organised the awards night.
Mike along with Gary King, Alan French and the late Paddy Rea were the original team that set up the radio station in 2002 as a trial radio station for the Uckfield Festival.
Roger Critchley from Addagrip who sponsored the category said prior to giving the award: “The winner of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award has been chosen by the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce.
They have been a very prominent and active member of the community for many years. This person is a Vice President of the Uckfield Bonfire Society, a trustee of the Uckfield Volunteer Centre and has been involved with the Uckfield Festival and many other activities in the town. However it was in 2002 when this person and three others came with the idea of setting up a local radio station for the town.
A year later Uckfield FM was born and started broadcasting from a make shift studio in the Picture House Cinema. Over the years he has been involved heavily as Chairman and also looks after the local news operation of the radio station and updates regularly content on the station website.
He’s attended more recently the Uckfield is Open Campaign and has been a driving force within that group. He’s also attended many local town council and other voluntary group meetings to keep the people of Uckfield informed about what is going on in the town.
And at this point, if you haven’t guessed already – I have great pleasure in announcing that the winner of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award is Mike Skinner from Uckfield FM.”
The event, which took place at the East Sussex National Hotel, was attended by over 300 people locally.
