Radio Response has appointed former Managing Director of MRIB Jon Mais as Head of Strategy for Audience Measurement.
Jon joins Radio Response to lead their ongoing efforts to support the UK community radio sector.
With more than 20 years’ experience in technology, media analytics and entertainment industries, Jon was Managing Director of Intelligent Media after he spent 9 years at MRIB – the market research company behind commercial radio’s Nescafe Network Chart Show.
Jon’s first task was enabling the submission of an application to the Ofcom Community Radio Fund for £47,000 to provide an independent audience research solution for community – ‘non-RAJAR’ – stations. The funding application is led by Dom Chambers of Somer Valley FM and has the full support of the Community Media Association.
19 stations are part of the submission to Ofcom.
Jon says, “This measurement methodology would enable stations to show credible figures to local commercial clients and prove the viability of the organisation to help with public funding applications.
“The results will also present audience data in a uniform format to agencies, national and quasi-national clients. The research will also provide each station with the ability to demonstrate listener patterns over time which will also enable stations to provide a narrative to internal stakeholders to stations to address growth strategies”.
Jon is currently working with a team to fully profile and index all licenced community radio stations in the UK, as well as the growing number of independently run DAB stations, creating a solid base to encourage both on-air and digital income streams.
