Former Heart PD Francis Currie has been appointed as Group Content Director – Music Radio at Wireless Group, reporting to Chief Executive Scott Taunton.
In addition, Virgin Radio’s Programme Director Liam Thompson is leaving the station to return home to Ireland for a new project.
Francie Currie will oversee programming strategy at Virgin Radio and support the programming of local music radio stations in the UK and Ireland.
Announcing his appointment, Scott Taunton, Chief Executive of Wireless Group, said: “Francis is a powerhouse in the radio industry and I have no doubt that he will be a huge asset to Wireless. He will join my Executive team and work to ensure our business continues to produce exceptional content, that our teams and stations work more closely together, with a focus on developing and delivering new and innovative ideas that drive audience growth.”

I am looking forward to getting stuck in at Wireless and working with the top class talent across a group of such diverse brands – from Virgin Radio in the UK, to local stations such as Signal 1 in England, The Wave in south Wales, U105 in Northern Ireland, and FM 104, Q102 & 96FM in the Republic of Ireland.”
Currie joins from his own consultancy, which he has overseen for the past 10 years, and from specialist radio research company Currie Nordén. He was named “one of the radio industry’s best consultants” in a poll by prestigious US industry magazine Radio Ink.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Currie was Group Programme Director at Heart and has held a number of roles at Emap including launch Programme Director of Magic, Music Director for Emap Performance and Programme Director of Emap Television.
