The Community Radio Awards takes place this Saturday in Bristol, hosted by last year’s Station of the Year winner, Ujima Radio and broadcast live on inRadio.
This year over 70 stations have entered in 16 categories. There are five nominations for Station of the Year, Manchester’s All FM, Raidió Fáilte in Belfast, who won silver in 2016, Ribble FM in Clitheroe, Somer Valley FM in North East Somerset and Wycombe Sound broadcasting from High Wycombe.
The live broadcast will be anchored by Dom Chambers and produced by Pete Helmore. Dom, a well-known advocate for community media, who hosted last year’s inaugural awards, said: “After spending my summer visiting grass roots broadcasters around the UK I am delighted to be presenting this special programme for inRadio.”
Dom will preview the awards this week in his regular show Third Sector on inRadio, featuring interviews with Martin Steers, Ujima Radio’s Roger Griffith and the Community Media Association.
Community Radio Awards founder, Martin Steers said:, “The response this year has been amazing and I can tell you many of the judges have fed back that they have been blown away by the quality of many of the entries.”
“It’s fantastic that InRadio and Radio Today are looking to support the Community Radio Awards by providing coverage of them, it’s a fantastic opportunity for the entire radio sector, including the thousands of people involved in Community Radio to hear as the night unfolds and we reveal those who receive Gold at this year’s awards.
The 2 hour awards special can be heard from 7pm on Saturday 23 September at inrad.io
