Katie Derham is joining the presenting line-up for BBC Radio 3’s drive time programme In Tune, starting on Monday 2 October.
She moves from afternoon programmes to replace Suzy Klein who is now fronting Essential Classics with Rob Cowan.
This move is part of a series of schedule and presenter changes taking place across the station this autumn. Katie Derham will join long-time host Sean Rafferty, who celebrated his twentieth anniversary presenting the programme in September. Katie and Sean will both front the programme, presenting in rotation.
In Tune is BBC Radio 3’s weekday drive time show, (Monday-Friday, 5 -7.30pm). The programme features a mix of live and recorded music, as well as news, views and developments from the arts world. Katie Derham has hosted the BBC Proms on BBC Two since 2010, and presents a weekly magazine show, Proms Extra, every Saturday evening during the Proms season.
Edward Blakeman, Head of Music Programmes Radio 3 says: “Katie is the perfect choice for In Tune. It is a live interview and music programme and Katie will bring a wealth of journalistic and live classical music presenting experience to the show. At Radio 3 we always want to connect as many people as possible to the very best classical music performances and provide audiences with insightful interviews and comment – and this is what Katie does so well.”
Katie Derham adds: “I’ve always loved In Tune for its vibrant mix of live music and chat, and it’s going to be a huge pleasure to join Sean and the team. I’m looking forward to great conversation with the most interesting and exciting musicians around.”
