Gem 106 breakfast duo Sam and Amy are joining national digital station Virgin Radio to do the same timeslot, replacing Edith Bowman.
Their appointment was announced at a special Virgin Radio party in London this evening.
Edith announced earlier today that she was leaving Virgin after 18 months, while Bauer revealed Sam and Amy’s departure together with the news that Jo and Sparky would be replacing them on the East Midlands regional station.
Sam Pinkham and Amy Voce have been on Gem 106 and its predecessor Heart for the last 11 years and have also done cover shifts on Radio 2 and Magic. They won Gold at the Radio Academy Awards in 2013 and 2014.
They’ll start on Virgin on Monday 2nd October and will be on air 6am-10am.
Sam said: “Once you’ve worked out who’s Sam and who’s Amy we hope you enjoy the show that we’re thrilled to be hosting. Amy’s the rude one in the corner. She’s sarcastic and has never been nice enough to be called Sam.”
Amy said: “After working together for ten years, Sam and I have been itching to put our show on a national scale and Virgin Radio is the perfect home. The music & guests lined up are so exciting and as soon as Sam’s learned who half of them are, it’s gonna be a great show.”
Francis Currie, Wireless Group Content Director for Music Radio told RadioToday: “Virgin Breakfast with Sam and Amy is going to rock!’ You’d better set your alarm clocks for more music in the morning. Stand by to be impressed … if they remember to set their own alarm!”
Edith Bowman does her last show on Virgin Radio breakfast on Friday 29th September, while Jo and Sparky take over Gem 106 breakfast from 16th October.
