BBC Radio 1Xtra has today announced Jeremiah Asiamah, Melody Kane, Kenny Allstar and Snoochie Shy have been signed to the station.

They’re joining 1Xtra’s Residency, a new addition to the schedule starting on Wednesday 29th November, which champions the next generation of new DJ talent – appearing on rotation over a six month period.

Jeremiah Asiamah, who has made regular appearances on 1Xtra over the past year, will host the weekly show until Wednesday 3rd January, (11pm-1am) before appearing on rotation with his 2018 residents. He says: “It’s a pleasure to be part of 1Xtra’s new Residency show. I’ve been listening to the station for a very long time and I’m looking forward showing the listeners what I have to offer. They can expect everything from great music, including all House, Garage and Bashment, to exciting guests and entertaining visual moments… It’s going to be the start of something very BIG!”

Melody Kane has developed a solid reputation on the club scene in recent years with her mixes for 1Xtra and says: “As a long term 1Xtra listener, I feel so blessed to be joining the family. In my show I’ll be sharing with you my passion for all that’s good in music, from Dancehall to Hip Hop and everything in between from both the UK and around the world, representing the best of today’s and tomorrow’s talent.”

Kenny Allstar is a growing name on the DJ circuit through his ‘Mad about Bars’ online series which showcases some of the freshest names from the UK Rap scene says: “Being on 1Xtra has always been a childhood dream of mine and I’m truly gassed to finally get the opportunity to broadcast to the nation and begin what I’m sure will be a sick journey with 1Xtra.”

Completing the line-up is DJ, model and presenter, Snoochie Shy who says: “I’m so excited to get started with my 1Xtra residency! I can’t believe that my mad self has been given a show! It’s a great station and more than anything I’m super happy to be able to play the music I love from the UK on BBC 1Xtra! So cray – I actually can’t wait! Big up my mum too, just cause she’s a G.”

Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes, 1Xtra and Asian Network says: “1Xtra is committed to championing the next generation of DJs and the brand-new Residency slot means that we’re super-charging our support for new talent. We’re really excited to announce the first four residents to the 1Xtra family.”

What is all this 1..1Extra, stuff. Radio One should simply be …Radio One…then 2,3,6….should be music services that deliver what they do now. Radio 4 and 5 should be one….a first class news / current affairs/ drama / sport service all speech as now including Women’s Hour etc but slightly tweaked to appeal to a new younger market without losing it’s core audience. They have the talent and facilities whether they have the skills up top to do it is another thing.
