New evening and weekend shows for Gem

Nottingham born presenter Jennie Longdon is taking over the evening show on Gem, and teaming up with Notts TV presenter Iain Chambers for weekend breakfast.

The duo covered breakfast on the station earlier this year and now Content Director James Brownlow has hired them permanently.

Jennie says: “I’ve got a real connection with the East Midlands audience having grown up and lived here all my life. Even whilst working away I’ve lived in the area which is also why I know the Gem audience will love our new shows on the weekend.”

Iain adds: “The challenge that radio brings is something I absolutely love. Being paired with Jennie and let loose to have fun with an audience in an area I live, whilst broadcasting on one of the UK’s biggest and best radio stations, just fills me full of confidence that we’ll have the East Midlands buzzing every Saturday & Sunday morning”

Gem Content Director James Brownlow believes they are setting an industry-wide high standard: “Having worked with both Jennie & Iain separately it became obvious it they would make a great pairing. The opportunity came and the Gem audience reaction was overwhelmingly positive to those shows. At Gem we’re focused on recruiting original high-quality entertainment and music broadcasters with a local connection. To be launching another fantastic music entertainment shows hot off the heels of bringing Jo & Sparky to Gem is very exciting.”

“Jennie is also a great solo broadcaster so we’re delighted to have her take control of our new evening show. We have also had the opportunity to bring in another locally based talent into the team and Phil Ray will be joining us to host our Gem Anthem shows every weekend.”

Phil Ray has spent the last few years hosting different radio shows across the country. He takes on the Gem Anthem shows on Friday to Sunday. Alongside the ‘Gem At Breakfast Show with Jo & Sparky’, Saturday’s Anthems show will be simulcast on local East Midlands digital TV station Notts TV.

Jennie & Iain can be heard on Gem Saturday mornings from 9am and Sunday’s from 8am whilst Gem Anthems – Friday night from 6pm, Saturdays from 5pm and Sunday nights from 7pm.
