Lauren Laverne to host 2018 Radio Festival

BBC 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne has been announced as the host for this year’s Radio Festival, taking place in London on 15th May.

The event returns to the British Library, with this year’s theme set to be “Radio – What’s The Future?”

Ed Miliband and Geoff Lloyd will record an episode of their Reasons to be Cheerful podcast in front of a live audience on the day too.

Geoff told us: “We’re really looking forward to bringing Reasons to be Cheerful to the Radio Festival. Although if Ed thinks braying Tories at PMQs were a tough crowd, wait till he’s faced with a radio industry conference ready for its lunch break.”

We’re told there’ll also be sessions on “The Future of Voice”, but the rest of the speakers and guests for the festival are yet to be announced.

Lauren Laverne said: “It’s an honour to be asked to host this year’s festival. Radio has never been more exciting and full of possibilities than it is today. I’m looking forward to chewing them over with our guests.”

Nick Pitts, RadFest Director commented: “This year, we are celebrating the future of our sector in all of its forms. From traditional broadcasting to streaming via voice activation, there is so much planned that will provide many ‘wow moments’ and give delegates much food for thought. It’s great to have Ed and Geoff on board to show us all how their award-winning podcast is done and having Lauren in charge is a great way to kick off the excitement for this year’s Radio Festival.”

Tickets have just gone on sale at radioacademy.org/radio-festival, with an early-bird offer available until Sunday 8th April putting the ticket price at £99 plus VAT for Radio Academy members and £149 plus VAT for non-members.
