John Gillmore, BBC Radio Lancashire’s afternoon presenter is to be jailed and bailed to raise money for charity.
Gilly will be “arrested” at around 9.30am on Friday 16th March together with a number of participants from local businesses and organisations, and they’ll be taken to the police station in Blackburn town centre where he’ll be fingerprinted, handcuffed and charged, and locked in a prison cell – and he’s appealing to friends and listeners to raise his bail money to get him out.
The event will raise funds for Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, and when organisers approached Gilly he was only too happy to help, saying: “Age UK do an amazing job right across the Lancashire area. We’ve done many features on “John Gillmore and Friends” in the afternoon where we’ve showcased some of the great projects that the organisation have been responsible for, and when they told me they wanted to throw me in jail – well, frankly it was an honour!
“I hope to hit my fundraising target of £250 before my programme starts at Noon…or else my co-presenter on Fridays Nishma Hindocha will have to carry on without me…!”
