It follows the controversy in 2012, when One Direction thanked Radio 1 on stage at The Brits as they collected a Capital FM sponsored award. The group ended up being dropped from Global stations’ playlists for a while.
The Global Awards were broadcast on the group’s Heart and Capital TV channels last night (Thursday) as well as online. Most major presenters from Capital, Heart, Smooth, Classic, LBC, Capital Xtra and Radio X were there – with those presenting awards on stage including Chris Moyles and Johnny Vaughan, Emma Bunton and John Suchet. The whole night was hosted by Roman Kemp, Myleene Klass and Rochelle Humes.
There were music performances from acts including Sam Smith, Liam Payne, Rita Ora and Andrea Bocelli. Little Mix were the big winners on the night, taking three awards. You can read more about the awards here.
