Spirit FM runs Bring Us Your Bras campaign

Spirit FM has been running a campaign to help in the fight against breast cancer, collecting over 3000 bras from listeners.

The Bring Us Your Bras campaign had bra banks set up at sites across the county and was run in conjunction with Smitten Lingerie in Chichester.

Students and even the principal of Chichester College helped to count the number of bras donated, and for every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer received £700 to fund their research.

Spirit FM Content Director, Stuart McGinley added: “I really wasn’t sure what sort of response we would have but the women of West Sussex have been fantastic in supporting the appeal. This is definitely something we will do again and hopefully double the number we collect!”

Recycling bras prevents them from being dumped into UK landfills, and the charity’s recycling scheme directs textiles to Africa where they help create local commerce.

Bernadette Jones, chief executive of Against Breast Cancer said: “We thank Spirit FM, their listeners and the companies involved for getting behind this bra campaign.

“We hope to continue and grow this partnership and we are very excited to hear the final total of how many bras have been donated. We hope those that donated get in touch to hear more about our research and ways in which they can support us.”
