Podcast: Bauer buys Lincs, Celador and Wireless Local

Former GMG Radio Group PD John Simons offers his thoughts on Bauer’s purchase last week of Lincs FM Group, Celador Radio and Wireless’ local radio division. Simo chats to Stuart Clarkson about how Bauer might integrate the new acquisitions and what it’s like in a station that’s just been bought.

RadioToday’s Editor Roy Martin joins Stuart to discuss the Bauer deals and the consolidation’s wider impact on the industry – as well as the other big stories of the week such as the Radio Times’ list of the greatest radio shows ever, the Q4/18 RAJARs, Scala Radio’s test transmissions, and a possible rebranding for talkRADIO.

James Cridland considers why (with the help of Lisa Kerr) other companies find radio people irresistible, and David Lloyd takes us back in time with more brilliant Radio Moments.

There goes more viarety on the radio.
Such a shame when a big fish buys little fish, little fish just gets swallowed up and turns into big fish, resulting in same old output with local adverts.

    Just look at global.
No wonder bbc radio it looking more attractive these days.

Agreed with John Simons on this podcast regarding Bauer; that they should be using the Kiss and Magic brands more around the UK.

They also have the hugely successful GEM brand since buying Orion. I think “Hits radio” is a strapline not a brand.
