5 Live’s late-night presenter Phil Williams is leaving the station after 18 years.
Phil has presented the late evening show, Monday to Wednesday/Thursday, 10:30pm till 1am, on BBC Radio 5 Live since 13 May 2013.
Before 5 Live, Phil worked at BBC Radio 1, GMR in Manchester and XFM London. His last show will be May 8th.
Sarah Brett will take over the show – which is on-air Mondays to Wednesdays (Monday-Thursday on weeks when there is no Question Time Extra Time).
5 Live Controller Jonathan Wall told RadioToday: “I’d like to thank Phil for everything he has done for the station. He started out as our entertainment correspondent, making a big impact with a range of exclusive stories. He’s presented across the schedule, most recently on the late programme, where he’s delivered brilliant interviews and big breaking news stories.
“We look forward to Sarah starting a new show on 13 May.”

Another box being ticked for the BBC
Absolutely. Makes you wonder if it was even advertised with the option for a male replacement.
It probably wasn’t advertised, most on air positions aren’t.
So is this the way it is now – if a woman gets the job its because of ‘box ticking’ jot because someone thought they are the best person for the job.
It’s a 50/50 chance it will be a woman after all
I assume you fellas have negative feelings about Greggs Vegan sausage rolls too?
Jumped or was pushed to make way for more diversity placement?

PHIL ILLIAMS WILL END UP ON TALKRADIO REPLACING THE LADY WHOES NAMEN I CANNOT REMEBER WHO IS GOING TO SCALES RADIO
I would congratulate 5live for sticking Sarah Brett out of the way, on late at night, instead of at 1 in the afternoon, but it just ensures Nihal is able to spend the whole 3 hours deliberating about impossibly cool he thinks he is.
Furthermore, I could pretend it’s the endless need to blame Brexit for everything, but the station is now a mess. When is Emma Barnett going to stop sucking on that huge bag of mintoes?….
I’m always amazed that the Sunday Times employ her as an agony Aunt. But the Telegraph have Richard Madeley so I suppose the bar isn’t set very high.
Apart from conjecture, anyone know if Phil left of his own volition or otherwise?
Sarah Brett’s Late Football Show?
Really sorry that Phil is leaving. I always thought he was underrated by the Beeb, and felt he deserved the afternoon slot when Simon Mayo went to R2. I shan’t be listening to Sarah Brett, unless she gets her adenoidal vocal chords sorted. And even then………
