Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer joined talkSPORT Drive from Soccer Aid training ahead of Sunday’s charity match at the London Stadium.
Speaking with Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent, Sir Keir said England “must bring it back home” at this summer’s World Cup and noted the tournament was last won under a Labour government.
The Prime Minister also backed calls for Arsenal’s Champions League final appearance to remain free to air, after writing to TNT Sports asking for the match to be made available without charge.
Sir Keir told talkSPORT: “All fans want to watch the Champions League final. It’s a big event. It should be free.”
He added that Arsenal’s Premier League title success after a 22 year wait was “fantastic” and praised the squad’s resilience during the closing weeks of the season.
The interview took place during Soccer Aid training, with Sir Keir attending to support the charity event ahead of the match this Sunday, 31st May.
Asked whether he would join the players in training, he joked he could face problems at Prime Minister’s Questions if things went wrong on the pitch.
“If I walk into Prime Minister’s Questions on crutches, I think there’d be a lot of explaining to do,” he said.
talkSPORT will broadcast live coverage of Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2026 from the London Stadium, including full match commentary between the England XI and World XI for a fourth consecutive year.
