Former BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Steve Roberts has published his first novel.
Not Young Enough To Know Everything, follows the life of Nick, whose future is shaped by a seemingly ordinary decision made during a job interview at the age of 15.
The story begins with Nick starting work as a joiner before charting his experiences through working class Britain, family life and financial hardship.
After taking construction work in Germany to support his family, he returns home and becomes involved in an illegal financial arrangement that results in a court appearance, community service and a repayment order.
The novel then follows Nick as he rebuilds his life, first helping people through the Jobcentre and later supporting young offenders in the probation service.
The title comes from a remark made by a teenage offender, prompting Nick to understand the meaning behind an Oscar Wilde quote that had stayed with him for years.
Steve Roberts spent more than three decades at BBC Radio Merseyside before leaving the station in 2022 to become General Manager of General Manager of Widnes Vikings rugby club.
