Heartland FM will stop broadcasting after 34 years, ending community radio services from its base in Crieff.
The Perthshire station announced it will cease broadcasting and close because it can no longer operate on a financially sustainable basis. The decision was made by the Heartland Radio Foundation after what it described as a long search for a viable business model.
In a statement published on the station’s website, the organisation said the current financial climate and the growing challenge of maintaining a sustainable future meant it was no longer able to continue operating.
Heartland FM said it had become more than a radio station during its 34 years on air, serving as a platform for local voices, local news and information, while helping people build friendships and community connections.
The statement thanked listeners for their support throughout the station’s history. It said: “It is with great sadness that we share this difficult news with our listeners.”
The board of trustees also thanked those who had supported the station over the years, saying: “Thank you for being part of our journey.”
