Apple FM has begun broadcasting from its new town centre studio at Ina’s Cottage in Taunton.
The community station went live from the Grade II listed building at 10am on Saturday 5 September, with volunteers taking part in the opening broadcast.
Listeners heard an updated schedule, a refreshed format and a revitalised jingle package as Apple FM introduced its latest on air identity.
The move follows the station’s departure from Musgrove Park Hospital, where it had been based for more than five decades. Apple FM was asked to leave after the hospital required additional space for clinical services.
Several organisations subsequently offered the station alternative accommodation. Apple FM chose Ina’s Cottage, which forms part of the Mambo complex in Taunton town centre.
Technical Manager Phil Hodgson Purves called the relocation “the end of an era, but the beginning of an exciting new journey.”
The studio will provide a central base for Apple FM’s presenters and volunteers as the station develops its local coverage. Plans include adding programmes and creating further volunteering opportunities.
Managing Director Greg Perkins said: “Yesterday’s launch was a proud moment for everyone involved. We’re excited for what comes next and grateful for the support our community has shown throughout this transition.”
