BCfm Radio has launched a four-part podcast series to help people in Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire recognise early signs of cancer and feel more confident about seeking medical advice.
The Early Cancer Diagnosis Podcast is produced by the station with support from the NHS Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance. It features local NHS clinicians alongside broadcasters Laura Rawlings and Patrick Hart, both of whom have personal experience of cancer.
The series covers breast, prostate, lung and bowel cancer, combining clinical knowledge with lived experience and practical advice. The aim is to make conversations about cancer symptoms more accessible and less intimidating, especially for underserved communities.
Laura, who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, said it is important to know your body and act when something changes. She added that the podcast is to create open and non-judgemental conversations.
Patrick, who has also undergone cancer treatment, said the series encourages people to get symptoms checked and to talk more openly within families and communities.
The full series is available on BCfm Podcasts, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Audible, and will be shared through community and health networks in the South West.
