Community radio stations carry ASA campaign across UK

Community radio stations across the UK are donating airtime to explain who regulates the adverts their listeners see and hear.

The stations are supporting the Advertising Standards Authority’s latest national awareness campaign through the UK Community Radio Network. The campaign tells audiences that UK advertising across all media is subject to rules requiring it to be legal, decent, honest and truthful.

The ASA is using donated media space from partners across the advertising industry. Community stations will carry the message in towns, villages and rural areas, including places the UKCRN says are underserved by other media.

Kim Martinez, ASA Communications and Marketing Manager, thanked UKCRN and the participating stations for donating airtime. She said the campaign would let listeners know “that UK ads are regulated”.

Rebecca Steers, Director of the UK Community Radio Network, confirmed the organisation was working with the ASA again. “Trust in advertising is beneficial for Community Radio as much as any other platform,” she said, adding that stations can reach communities that might otherwise miss the message.

The campaign also covers adverts encountered online and on television, alongside those heard on local radio.
