Global’s radio stations have raised £4,576,707 for small charities across the UK in the thirteenth annual Make Some Noise appeal.
Heart, Capital and Heart Scotland presenters took on physical challenges in the run up to Make Some Noise Day on Friday 9 October, with money going towards community projects supporting people facing difficult circumstances.
Heart presenter Vicky Pattison travelled 250 miles from Newcastle to London over five days, cycling, kayaking and running through York, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester as part of her Tyne to Thames Challenge.
Capital presenter Kemi Rodgers completed military style drills and training exercises before abseiling down London’s Cutty Sark, a surprise final challenge made more difficult by her fear of heights.
Heart Scotland Breakfast presenter Des Clarke ran 13.1 miles through Glasgow with a team of 70 listeners for the Heart Half Marathon Heroes challenge.
Other Global presenters marked the day together, including Smooth Radio’s Kate Garraway, Paul Phear and Jenni Falconer, Classic FM’s Aled Jones, Capital’s Jordan North and Siân Welby, and Radio X’s Johnny Vaughan.
Simon Pitts, Group CEO of Global, said: “Teams from across the whole of Global, alongside our listeners and commercial partners, have come together to put the work of these remarkable small charities firmly in the spotlight.”
Suzanne Ryder Richardson, Director of Global Goodness, added: “The money raised will help fund vital projects providing lifelines in communities all across the UK.”
Furniture Village sponsored this year’s appeal, while Müller Corner and Digby Brown supported individual presenter challenges.
Since launching in 2014, Global’s Make Some Noise has provided funding to 755 small charities across the UK.
Donations remain open, with listeners able to text GIVE10, GIVE20, GIVE30 or GIVE40 to 70766 to contribute, with standard network charges possibly applying.
