Susie Fowler-Watt to leave BBC after 35 years

BBC Look East presenter Susie Fowler-Watt is leaving the BBC after 35 years to concentrate on her new career as a psychotherapist.

Susie began her broadcasting career at BBC Radio Surrey in 1991 before moving through a number of reporting, producing and presenting roles in BBC local radio.

She later joined the BBC political unit at Westminster, working on national television programmes, before becoming Political Correspondent for BBC East.

Susie has been a lead presenter of BBC Look East for three decades, having taken on the role while still in her twenties.

Speaking about her departure, Susie said: “Presenting the BBC’s 6.30pm regional news programme has been such a privilege, as you’re very much part of your community and are invited into hundreds of thousands of homes every evening.”

She added: “I have absolutely loved the job, but I’m now in a new chapter of life, and keen to focus my energy on my therapy work.”

During her career, Susie has interviewed eight UK Prime Ministers and covered major stories including the Soham murders, the trial of serial killer Steve Wright, the Covid pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

She has also interviewed Ed Sheeran, having followed his music career since he was a schoolboy, and taken part in television assignments including skydiving, banger racing and singing with Steve Harley of Cockney Rebel.

Susie said some of her most memorable interviews involved ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances, particularly during the Covid lockdown.

Robert Thompson, Director of Production for BBC Local, said: “Susie has made an outstanding contribution to the BBC and audiences across the East of England.”

Susie’s final appearance on BBC Look East will be on Friday 18 December at 6.30pm on BBC One.
