BBC Surrey honours unsung heroes at awards ceremony

BBC Surrey has honoured local unsung heroes at a recent event, which will be broadcast in full over Christmas.
The BBC Surrey Community Heroes Awards 2014 ceremony will be aired on Sunday 14th December 3-5pm, with repeats on Boxing Day from 6 till 7pm and on Thursday 1st January 6-7pm.
Mark Carter, BBC Surrey Assistant Editor, oversees the awards each year. Mark said, “Last night’s awards were a splendid celebration of true heroes from across the region. Lots of work goes on behind the scenes to make our Awards a memorable occasion, but last night proved once again why it’s all so worthwhile”.
BBC Surrey Editor Sara David added: “It’s a cliché, but everyone who made the shortlist was a winner in my eyes. Each person has done so much good within the local community and they are all so modest about their amazing achievements. There were tears and laughter in equal amounts as each of the stories was told.”
