Long-serving BBC radio newsreader Howard Philpott has died at the age of 63 after a short battle with cancer.
He worked for BBC Radio 4 for 13 years, having first joined the BBC as a World Service trainee studio manager in 1975.
He also helped set up Radio Bognor whilst taking a break from the BBC.
Paying tribute, the BBC said: “We’re sorry to report that BBC Radio 4 newsreader and announcer Howard Philpott has died after a short battle with cancer. Howard was a valued member of the Radio 4 team who will be missed by listeners and colleagues alike. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
Colleague Nick Higham tweeted: “RIP my friend Howard Philpott, Radio 4 announcer and newsreader, who died last night. A really lovely man”.
Newsreader Neil Nunes tweeted: “Deeply sad at the death of my @bbcradio4 colleague Mr Howard Philpott.
BBC Radio 4 announcer Corrie Corfield wrote: “Such a wonderful b’caster, totally dependable, kind, funny & a bit naughty. You’ll be so missed.”
