Radio 1 Editor Rachel Mallender leaves BBC


Rachel Mallendar, Editor of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra is leaving the corporation for a new job at HarperCollins.

Rachel has been in her current role since 2012, leading the teams and projects on the national youth stations. She first joined the BBC 20 years ago.

At HarperCollins, Rachel will be Group Audio Director, responsible for driving the HarperCollins audio strategy, including its commitment to create an audio version of every narrative title it publishes in print under its “Total Audio” philosophy.

Before being appointed Editor, Rachel was Executive Producer at the BBC responsible for network projects for Radio 1’s Daytime shows and then Weekend shows.
