Dave Berry starts Breakfast on Absolute

Dave Berry’s new morning show on Absolute Radio began today, with guest George Ezra and some coffee-based banter with fellow Bauer breakfast presenter Ronan Keating.

George was on the show – with Dave and co-presenter Matt Dyson – to talk about his new single, but also revealed how a technical mishap nearly ruined his interview with Elton John. He also played along with Dave and Matt’s idea for him to read a section of Stephen King’s ‘It’, following his recent appearance on CBeebies’ Bedtime Story.

The show launched with a competition which will run over 10 weeks to win tickets, starting with some for the Isle of Wight festival. And Dave took a leaf out of Ronan Keating’s book by treating his team to a fancy new coffee machine, with Ronan offering them his pods!

Dave has replaced Christian O’Connell, who started his new breakfast show on Gold 104.3 in Melbourne last night (Monday morning Australian time) following his departure from Absolute Radio last month.

Christian’s former co-host Richie Firth tweeted that he was tuned into Dave’s first breakfast show this morning:

Heard both first shows and so wish Dave would go to Melbourne and Christian would come back!

Couldn’t the just combine and present the breakfast show in Melbourne?

Thought it was very wooden and just didn’t gel for me. Miss Christian and Ritchie. New station for me I think ☹️

Bring back the OC and Ritchie.
12 years of good morning banter gone forever.
I gave the new one a listen. Celebrity interview put me right off and it’s not really funny. Sorry .

If you don’t mind your cornflakes at night you can catch Christian’s breakfast show on his new station 9pm to midnight UK time!

I agree, I’ve tried the new show for about three mornings, just cannot get into it – it seems too ‘strained’. It’s a shame, I loved the OC and Ritchie show but have now re-tuned my radios to breakfast shows elsewhere.
