Peak FM enjoyed a massive increase in web traffic this week thanks to the recent floods in the area. Listeners took the opportunity to send pictures of local flooding to the UTV station, which were displayed online. More than 30,000 local people logged on to view the pictures.
Monday saw one month’s rain fall in the space of 24 hours in and around Chesterfield. With local people stranded in their cars for up to 10 hours, Peak FM entertained and provided essential travel information. Listeners gave live eyewitness views on-air, as the studio phone lines rang continuously all day with listeners giving information of the damage the floods were doing.
Chris Buckley, Peak FM’s Programme Controller told RadioToday.co.uk “I have never seen so much rain fall in such a short space of time. This is when Peak FM became the lifeline for our regular and new listeners. For local people to risk the elements to take photographs for us, I am really grateful.’
