Hospital Radio nominations are released

The nominations are out for this year’s National Hospital Radio Awards, with the prizes to be given out in Blackpool on March 23rd.

Two new categories have been unveiled for this years ceremony, with Fundraiser of the Year and an award for the Best Programme with Multiple Presenters introduced.

Hospital Radio Plymouth will again be hoping to take the main Station of the Year Award. As a former winner of the Gold prize, it has nominations in six categories overall, including presenters Rachel Dodd (Best Newcomer) and Keith Jolley (Best Male Presenter.)

They’ll face stiff competition from the Hospital Broadcasting Service, based in Glasgow. It too is nominated in six categories including Best Newcomer, Best Speech, Specialist Music and Station of the Year. Other big successes from the short-lists out today include Radio Northwick Park, with five nominees and Harrogate Hospital Radio with four.

Lincs FM’s Director of Programming Sean Dunderdale will again be hosting the awards ceremony, co-produced by the Hospital Broadcasting Associations Deputy Chief Executive Iain Lee.

Sean told Radio Today: “I know it’s a cliché but the judges really have had a hard task this year in producing the nominees. The standard of entries continues to rise year on year and it’s great to see the kind of quality hospital radio being produced by volunteers right across the UK. The judging panel is made up of health professionals and those within the radio industry and entries are judges on how best it serves the hospital community. You don’t have to be the best broadcaster, it’s more how you relate to that individual hospital patient that matters. That’s what hospital radio is really about.”

The Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, part of the HBA Annual Conference, at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool on Saturday March 23rd.

A full list of nominees can be found at the HBA website.
