Nihal Arthanayake apologies for sweary rap song on 5 Live

You know we like to do things with a bit of a twist.. here is that twist,” Nihal Arthanayake says before playing a rap about Brexit complete with swear words on 5 Live.

The rap is from a drill music artist from London who has been gaining popularity for his unique political songs, with quotes from MPs.

Drillminister says his track called Brexit highlights double standards, and how language can be considered offensive depending upon who’s using it.

Nihal played the track on BBC Radio 5 Live on Wednesday afternoon, but faded it out and said sorry for the offensive language. He added how lyrically incredible the track is.

……… and what action will be taken?

Was the Programme Producer asleep or screaming fade it down? We should be told.

  2. Colin Williams

Please do tell me in what way this is judged to be “lyrically incredible”

Sounds just like an ordinary day on Radio 1.

Nihal what’s his name has to have one of the most annoying voices I’ve ever heard on radio, I’m not quite sure what exactly it is, whether the intonation, annunciation, phrasing or over earnestness. I also resent any music being played on what is essentially a talk/information channel. Whilst I acknowledge the amazing power of music in life, it is so powerful that if it is not wanted or required it can be tremendously, irritating, distracting, and intrusive, even worse if the words being broadcast are simply not suitable for the broadest audience.

Also Lisa tarbrush has a profoundly irritating radio presence both should stick to their original Fortes.

From the Asian Network alumni, Adil Ray has been the best host going on to 5 Live. Consummate political professional, versatile on the entertainment front, quick wit and bright with callers, he has done many stand out late night slots on 5. Bring him back. Nihal seems stuck in a DJ style Radio 1 universe.
