Viking FM has set out to prove romance is alive and kicking in Scunthorpe after giving away a romantic night for a local couple.
Jim Coulson, who co-hosts Viking FM Breakfast, was annoyed by a recent article published by hotels.com which slammed the romantic offering of the North Lincolnshire town. And with co-presenter Rosie Madison, they ran a campaign on air to create the ‘perfect romantic night’ in Scunthorpe for one couple.
Local companies offered prizes, such as a honeymoon suite in a hotel, theatre tickets, flowers, limo and food.
The winners were Carolyne and Erik Jensen from Driffield. Jim & Rosie spoke to Carolyne the morning after who said: “We had the most amazing night in Scunthorpe and we can confirm that it is very, very romantic. It was the first time we’ve been able to celebrate our anniversary and we couldn’t have wished for a more romantic night. Thank you so much Jim & Rosie”.
Jim said: “I am overwhelmed by how much support we have had from businesses in Scunthorpe as well as our listeners to help me prove that this survey is nonsense! I’m born & bred in Scunthorpe and know how good it is, despite the negativity it gets. I’m proud to have been able to prove it wrong and at the same time do something amazing for a truly deserving couple”
Local MP Nic Dakin even got in on the act. He said “What you did for Carolyne & Erik was fantastic and does kill the lie that Scunthorpe isn’t romantic. Where else could you see the Moscow City Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet on the 14th February?”
