Fun Kids to send intergalactic messages from planet Earth

Fun Kids is sending children’s messages into space in a special radio broadcast.

On February 14th, 2022, the love letter from Earth will be broadcast nationwide on Fun Kids and will simultaneously be sent to the stars in a live event hosted at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in London.

Kids across the country are invited to submit their audio recordings to become part of the transmission: a broadcast that will travel through the universe for billions of years.

With parabolic radio transmitters and wavelengths that clearly penetrate Earth’s atmosphere, there is no theoretical limit to the distance the signal can travel. In anywhere from 4 to 400 billion years, a potential alien civilisation with similar technology to ours will be able to receive the message.

Listeners have from January 4th until February 10th 2022 to submit their audio answers to a few key questions with the chance of being included in this nationwide and galaxy-wide broadcast.

Bex Lindsay, Fun Kids Presenter says: “I can’t wait to hear all of the amazing things Fun Kids listeners are going to tell us about their lives! I’m looking forward to sending the very best up to space.”

Emily Drabek-Maunder, Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich adds: “The Royal Observatory Greenwich is incredibly excited to be partnering with Fun Kids to send the broadcast out into space. Maybe someone many years from now will pick up our broadcast out in space and listen to our message all the way from another solar system!”
